A BRIEF LOOK AT BIKKURIM
By Dr. and Mrs. Elias E. Hidalgo
THE DAY OF FIRST FRUITS !!!
THE THIRD FEAST OF THE LORD MENTIONED IN THE BOOK OF LEVITICUS CHAPTER 23 IS CALLED 'BIKKURIM' (THE FIRST FRUITS). ANOTHER INTERESTING POINT IS THAT IT FALLS ON THE THIRD DAY OF PESACH (PASSOVER).
ON THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF NISAN, 'PASSOVER' BEGINS, FOLLOWED ON THE SECOND DAY WITH 'UNLEAVENED BREAD', AND ON THE THIRD DAY, IT IS 'BIKKURIM' (FIRST FRUITS).
WHY IS BIKKURIM SO IMPORTANT TO US WHO BELIEVE IN THE PROPHETICAL SCRIPTURES FOUND IN THE OLD COVENANT AND COMPLETED IN THE NEW COVENANT, IN AND THROUGH THE VERY PERSON OF Y'SHUA (JESUS) OUR LORD? LAMA (WHY)?
BECAUSE Y'SHUA JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF BIKKURIM, AS WRITTEN AND CONFIRMED IN HOLY WRIT FOR OUR BENEFIT NOW AND (OLAM) ALWAYS.
WITHOUT THE REDEMPTIVE LINE MENTIONED IN GOD'S WORD THAT HAD PROGRESSED FROM THE DAYS OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN WHEN ADAM AND EVE SINNED AGAINST THE LORD EVEN UNTIL NOW, WE WOULD BE WITHOUT HOPE AND IN ETERNAL DARKNESS.
EL SHADDAI (THE ALMIGHTY GOD) HAS GIVEN US HIS LIGHT AND SALVATION THROUGH HIS HOLY WORD, THAT IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME, GOD SENT HIS SON TO BE OUR 'FIRST FRUITS'. THOSE INDIVIDUALS (ISRAEL) LIVING IN THE DAYS OF THESE INITIAL PROCLAMATIONS FROM THE ALMIGHTY GOD WOULD PROVIDE FOR ALL MANKIND THROUGHOUT THE AGES, A WAY OF BEING FORGIVEN OF SIN AND ITS SORROW - AND HE DID.
YOU AND I HAVE ALSO BENEFITED FROM THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THESE SACRIFICES AS DESCRIBED, NOT ONLY FOR ISRAEL. THE ABOVE DEMONSTRATES GOD'S LOVE, AND ULTIMATELY HIS PRECIOUS ATONEMENT AND SACRIFICE THROUGH Y'SHUA (JESUS) OUR LORD FOR THEM AS WELL AS FOR US. THANK YOU LORD.
IN REFERENCE TO OUR SUBJECT 'BIKKURIM, ' HERE IS A WONDERFUL SCRIPTURE THAT WE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY READING,
'Also in the day of the Firstfruits (BIKKURIM), when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work':
ALSO, HERE IS A REMINDER OF THE LORD'S COMMANDMENT, AFTER PASSOVER AND ON THE THIRD DAY, CALLED 'BIKKURIM' THE DAY OF FIRST FRUITS,
Deuteronomy 26:1 - 10,
'And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there. (Yerushalayim – Jerusalem. According to II Chronicles 33:4, 'Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In 'Jerusalem' shall my name be for ever.')
And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.
And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.
And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian (Aramean) ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:
And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage:
And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labor, and our oppression:
And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey (Chalav ve Devash).
And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God':
NOW, WHAT DOES ALL OF THE BEAUTY OF 'BIKKURIM' MEAN TO US TODAY!
HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS?
WELL, SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL TOOK PLACE ON THE THIRD DAY, AND THAT SOMETHING WAS THE FULFILLMENT OF 'BIKKURIM' (FIRST FRUITS). IT WAS (NOT 'AFTER' THE THIRD DAY), BUT RATHER, 'ON THE THIRD DAY' WHEN Y'SHUA (JESUS) ROSE FROM THE DEAD, COMPLETING THE FULFILLMENT OF BIKKURIM AND PASSOVER, THANK YOU LORD THAT YOU ALWAYS COMPLETE WHAT YOU BEGIN.
REMEMBER THAT ON THE FIRST DAY OF PASSOVER (JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS), AND ON THE SECOND DAY (UNLEAVENED BREAD), HE REMAINED IN THE GRAVE, BUT ON THE THIRD DAY (BIKKURIM), HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD, THUS BRINGING TO PASS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE BEAUTIFUL FEAST OF THE LORD CALLED PESACH (PASSOVER).
THE APOSTLE SAUL-PAUL SPOKE BY THE INSPIRATION OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD THESE WORDS,
I Corinthians 15:20-23
'But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
But every man in his own order: Christ the 'firstfruits'; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming'.
THESE VERSES DESCRIBE FOR US AS BELIEVERS AND FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, THE BEAUTIFUL POSITION THAT WE HAVE AS BORN AGAIN CHILDREN OF GOD.
Y'SHUA WENT THROUGH THE AGONY OF DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION SO THAT WE CAN ALSO BECOME HIS 'BIKKURIM' (FIRST FRUITS) OF LIFE ETERNAL THROUGH HIM. AMEN.
HERE IS A CLOSING VERSE FOR OUR COMFORT AND CONSOLATION WRITTEN BY THE APOSTLE JOHN AS HE WAS ALSO INSPIRED BY THE VERY BREATH OF GOD, THE RUACH HA KODESH (THE HOLY SPIRIT).
I John 5:11
'And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.'
BECAUSE HE (JESUS) ROSE FROM THE DEAD, HE BECAME OUR 'BIKKURIM'; THUS, WE READ IN SCRIPTURE THAT HE IS OUR BLESSED HOPE, WHICH IS ETERNAL.
'Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;'
