THE DEN OF LIONS
Long ago, and in a far away land a conspiracy was being formulated against a man (Daniel) that had 'an excellent spirit ... in him' (Daniel 6: 3). We know that the Almighty God had pleasure in this man, because in the face of adversity, he always seemed to cling to and call upon the Lord, such as we read in Daniel 6: 10, 'Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and, his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime'. A decree had been given, 'that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions' (Daniel 6: 7).
If you are asking yourself, 'Now, what does all of this have to do with me in the year 2000?'. Well, just look around and see the many restrictions that we as believers in our Lord Jesus Christ have today, even in our country 'the land of the free'. By law of the king (president, supreme court, congress) we cannot pray at times in certain places. If we disagree vehemently with those that cause the death of unborn children (abortion), and decide to protest against this infanticide (the killing of a child), and we declare our outrage too 'close' to a certain boundary, then, we are in peril of going to jail. Help us Lord to be law abiding citizens, while at the same time, help us not to compromise our faith and walk with you. Our hope is found in the words of Daniel from the lions den, 'My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lion's mouths ...'.
A CUP OF WATER
Men and women of Science tell us that four/fifths of our planet Earth is covered with water. Imagine, that only leaves one fourth which is dry land that we can inhabit. We are also told that our own bodies are made up primarily of water, and that we should be extremely careful (especially during the hot summer months) not to allow ourselves to dehydrate.
Guess what? Our Lord Jesus Christ addresses also the issue of 'water', but on a much higher plain. In Mark 9: 41, we read, 'For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he (or she) shall not lose his (her) reward'.
Whenever and wherever we have the opportunity to bless another human being with whatever physical need that person may have, we can be sure that our Lord is pleased and proud of our unselfish act in giving with a cheerful heart. Therefore, in sharing of our material goods with the needful in a physical perspective is good and kind. On the other hand, there is something that transcends earthly needs, and that is, the Spiritual.
Spiritual 'water' comes to us in the form of the Word of God (Ephesians 5: 26), which by the way, in the absence of the water of the Word of God, eternal death is present. To satiate one's eternal thirst we must be born again by the incorruptible seed of the Word of God (I Peter 1: 23). Now, this can only be accomplished when a spiritually thirsty individual has the opportunity to hear the Word of Truth and responds. But, how can they hear (Romans 10: 14-15), they cannot, unless, you and I are willing to give them a 'Spiritual' cup of water through the Word?
HONEY OUT OF THE ROCK??
In Psalm 81: 13, we read, 'Oh that my people had hearkened to my voice;". These words were uttered to the Nation of Israel soon after they had been delivered by the Almighty God from the land of Egypt (Exodus 12).
How wonderfully and gloriously did the Lord show forth His love and care for this people, time and time again. And as we know through Scriptures, all that was required was for them to 'hearken' to the Voice and Word of God. The old English word 'hearken' simply means to 'pay attention'.
You probably remember sometime ago, when someone was speaking and you were listening, but, you were 'not' paying attention. If that individual would have asked you, 'did you hear what I said?', you would have probably responded as such, 'excuse me, what did you say?'
Can you imagine anyone (including Israel) not hearkening to the Word of God? Look at what God would have rewarded them with, if only they would have paid attention and obeyed the Voice of the Lord. As we read in Psalm 81: 16, 'He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee'. Imagine, what loss the children of Israel experienced by not 'truly' listening to our Lord.
You see, listening and practicing what we hear in the Word of Truth is the complete package that blesses our Messiah Y'shua (Jesus), and He will allow us the privilege and honor of being fed Spiritually and physically by His precious hand, time and again, if only we will obey.
Yes, you and I can truly experience honey out of the rock as we hearken to the Voice of our Lord and obediently follow his direction for our lives (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
NEWS FROM SHALOM SCRIPTURE STUDIES
Our services in Minneapolis (Tel 952 925 6186), in Naples (Tel 941 263 7093), and in Savannah (Tel 912 691 0709) are being blessed by our Lord as we continue witnessing His mighty hand upon all three out-reaches.
In Minnesota, Rev. and Mrs. Knibb tell us that the phone just keeps ringing off the hook with inquiries about the ministry, and as you probably already know, they are the ones that continue maintaining our television programs throughout the United States. Thank you Lord.
In Florida, Rev. Molloy is in the process of beautifying our Shalom Chapel with new carpet and other essentials that are so necessary as we maintain a 'beautiful' place for our Blessed Lord. Also, he as our internet webmaster, stays busy and busier updating our web site: www.shalom-peace.com. We give the Almighty God all the glory.
In Georgia, Dr. and Mrs. Hidalgo have the opportunity of shipping around the United States and the World our little Ten Commandment booklets and other literature. Also, they oversee the ministries in Minneapolis and Naples with their advise, counsel and most importantly their prayers. They have been rewarded in knowing that the Lord has blessed them in their latter years with three beautiful Chapels, where individual Jewish and Gentile people keep coming to hear The Word of Truth in Y'shua (Jesus) our Lord.
Shalom Scripture Studies appreciates your prayers & support.
