This year Passover begins on the evening of the 19th of April, 2002 and
lasts for seven days. Our custom at Shalom Scripture Studies is to eat
Matzah (Unleavened Bread) during the entire week. You might try it,
you just might like it. Any large super market will carry Matzah in the
section that is labeled 'ethnic foods', or there may be a display that is
set up for Passover. Leviticus 23: 5-8, gives us one of several places in
The Holy Bible that Passover is actually mentioned and spoken about.
The observance of it is encouraged by our Lord in reminding us that it
is a 'statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings'
Our Messiah, The Lord Jesus Christ, also kept Passover as recorded
in Luke 22: 8, as we read the words of our Saviour 'Go and prepare us
the Passover, that we may eat'. Whenever our beloved Lord is said to
have done a certain thing especially in issues that are recorded in The
Word of God, it provokes me to want to follow Him in obedience.
Especially when we read the following, 'with desire I have desired to
eat this Passover with you before I suffer' (verse 15). The two basic
elements of Passover, the bread and the fruit of the vine are express
examples of the very body and blood of our Y'shua (Jesus), the very
symbols of our redemption are clearly seen in The Feast of Passover,
'This is My body which is given for you:' and, 'This cup is The New
Testament in My blood, which is shed for you' (Luke 22: 19-20).
The last portion of Luke 22: 20 is extremely important, as we read,
'this do in remembrance of Me'. Why? Because the bread and the cup
that you and I partake of during The Lord's Table (Communion) not
only has it's origin in Passover, but, we are to always remember His
death, burial and resurrection 'until The Kingdom of God shall come'
(Luke 22:19). Thank you dear Lord for saving us and keeping us. 'Now
unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you
faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy' (Jude 24).
SHALOM (Peace) unto you,
and your loved ones.......
As you now know, April the 19th, 2002 ushers in Pesach (Passover)
and may we together say, thank you Lord for the deliverance that you
gave The Jewish people over 3,500 years ago from slavery in Egypt to
the saving of their seed and giving them The Promised Land, a Land
that floweth with milk and honey. Yes, even today The Land of Israel
is most blessed of our Lord, as the rightful inhabitants are today living
and cultivating it's ground. Thank you Lord for being faithful to all of
your Scriptural promises. Now, what you might NOT know, is that
this day is also a special day for the Hidalgo household, because, in the
year of 1944, Mrs. Ari D. Hidalgo was born in Kenmare, North
Dakota, the third born of five daughters. For over twenty years she
has faithfully been serving our Lord, always giving of herself in
service to our Messiah. She has had the honor and privilege of leading
many individuals 'by faith' into The Kingdom of Heaven. Her reward
is in heaven, but as her husband I thought you might like to join me in
a special prayer of thanksgiving for her. Thank you.
Mrs. Hidalgo has been by her husband's side through thick and thin,
truly she has often gone without the amenities of life, and then at times
we have seen The Lord pour out His blessings upon her in many
Truly, as I think about my dear wife, a particular Scripture comes to
mind, 'And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art
careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and
Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from
her' (Luke 10: 41-42).
In our twenty years of marriage, Mrs. Hidalgo has indeed turned out
to be a 'Mary' and not a 'Martha'. Thank you Lord, that my wife has
always chosen 'that good part', in serving our Lord and Saviour by
'faith', thus it has been a tremendous blessing to me personally, for we
together have been able to walk in agreement. As such, the Lord not
only has given me the honor of serving Him, but also with my wife at
my side (twenty-four hours a day), we have given our Messiah double
honor. Please do join me in saying to my wonderful spouse, happy
birthday, and may she have many more days and years of service
before our Lord.
News from The Land of Israel
WHAT A FRUIT
Researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology are
reporting that pomegranates contain high levels of antioxidants
chemicals which may fight hardening of the arteries and cancer, as
well as slow the aging of cells.
Results of the study - which show that pomegranate oil and wine are
more potent than the known anti-oxidant red wine - will be published
in the march 2002 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Weizmann Institute scientists are testing new vanadium compounds
that may alleviate the suffering of type II diabetic patients.
In a study reported in the Journal of Biological Chemistry,
researchers showed that the new patented compounds are effective in
regulating glucose levels in diabetic laboratory animals. Further
studies must be conducted to show whether the compounds are
appropriate for application in humans.
According to the newly-released report of Israel's Central Bureau of
Statistics, the country's current population is 6.7 million, up by
154,000 from November 1998.
More than 13% of the population - some 840,000 people - are
immigrants who arrived after 1990; of those, some 730,000 - almost
87% are from the former Soviet Union.
The latest census of Israel's populations shows that the Jewish growth
rate stands at only 1.8% annually, of which only 65% is due to natural
increase, while 35% of the sector's growth derived from immigration.
News from Shalom Scripture Studies
Dr. and Mrs. Hidalgo (Tel # 912 691 0709) extend their heartfelt
thanks to all of our prayerful and financial supporters without which
the work of Shalom Scripture Studies would not be able to continue.
We received a special letter a few days ago from Bethlehem, Israel
where a Baptist Church not only is being used of our Lord to speak
the Word of Truth, but they also maintain a Television Station. They
broadcast Gospel programs from Bethlehem, reaching to Jerusalem,
as well as some outlying villages. What a wonderful miracle.
We as an organization have been supporting them (prayerfully and
financially). There is a good possibility that some of our own television
programs will be shown FROM THIS STATION. If you would like to
be a part of this, please let us know.
Also, through Shalom Scripture Studies, we have been financially
supporting a retirement home in Haifa, Israel that is dedicated in
taking care of elderly Jewish individuals that believe in Jesus Christ as
Lord and Saviour. This is a one of a kind places in Israel. First of all
your prayers for this convalescent home is essential. If you would like
to help us continue our aide, then please do let us know.
In addition to the above we do support a Girls Orphanage in the Land
of Israel. These are three great projects that we have been involved
with through the tithes and offerings that we receive from you.
Therefore, we want to say thank you so very much for standing with
us, not only in presenting The Gospel 'to the Jew first, and also to the
Gentile' (Romans 1:16), but we also use some of our donations to help
the above three worthwhile outreaches.
May The Lord Himself bless you abundantly and graciously.
Please continue your prayers and support for Shalom Scripture Studies
Chapels in all three places. Thank you so very much.
